Microsoft Copilot Agent Mode Goes GA in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Microsoft moved Copilot Agent Mode from preview to general availability on April 22 inside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The agent now takes multi-step app-native actions: drafts and restructures documents end-to-end in Word, builds and explains analyses in Excel, rebuilds entire decks in PowerPoint while respecting company templates.
300M+ Microsoft 365 users now have an agent inside their daily tools. For HR teams, this means policy writing, comp analysis, and onboarding decks happen autonomously. Security note: agents can leak sensitive data faster than humans, so license coverage audits are now critical.
Open Word/Excel/PowerPoint with a Microsoft 365 + Copilot license. Open Copilot pane → Agent Mode. Describe the multi-step task. Approve or override each action.
This is Microsoft’s biggest agentic productivity move of 2026. Combined with Claude Cowork and Cursor’s Background Agent, the agent layer is now a default expectation for productivity software — not a feature you opt into.
